Consular Corps find new chances in tech sector via east bank tour

The Consular Corps visited leading enterprises in these fields during the tour. These enterprises showcased their key products and the ways that they have been working with global counterparts to fight against COVID-19.

Foreign diplomats from more than 50 Foreign Consulates in Guangzhou were invited to tour Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan from March 23 to 26.

Organized by Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, the tour featured companies and institutions in the technological sector, aimed at showcasing the ways in which Guangdong has been pushing forward development after the COVID-19 pandemic and boosting international exchanges.

Global connections highlighted in medical sector

The bio-technological and medical equipment industries saw rapid growth amid the pandemic. The Consular Corps visited leading enterprises in these fields during the tour. These enterprises showcased their key products and the ways that they have been working with global counterparts to fight against COVID-19.

The Group visited Shiyuan Electronic Technology Company, a company that is dedicated to the design, development and sales of LCD main boards. The company’s products are broadly used in hospitals and for online meetings during the pandemic. [Photo\Nanfang Daily]

Direct contact with high-tech institutions in Guangdong

The Representatives visited major technological institutions in Guangdong such as the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) during the trip and gained the opportunities to interact with the senior scientists.

A senior scientist of CSNS was answering questions from the Consular Corps. CSNS is the first pulsed neutron source facility in any developing country and it has been supporting research team both at home and abroad. [Photo\Newsgd.com]

The Consular Corps visited the China National GeneBank (CNGB) operated by BGI research. The CNGB is one of the key scientific infrastructures in Shenzhen and committed to supporting public welfare, life science research, innovation and industry incubation through bioresource conservation, digitalization and utilization. The Corps also visited the Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court and gained knowledge about how the city is working to strengthen IPR protection. [Photo\Newsgd.com]

Shenzhen Mayor meets with Consular Corps

Chen Rugui, Mayor of Shenzhen, had a meeting with the Consular Corps on March 26, during which he shared Shenzhen’s experience of boosting economic and social development after the Covid-19 pandemic and highlighted the city’s willingness to cooperate with global counterparts.

Carlos Ignacio Giralt Cabrales, Consul General of Mexico in Guangzhou, said he appreciated Guangdong and the city authorities showing the Consular Corps the new technologies and giving them the opportunity to explore new connections especially in the medical equipment sector through the tour.

“We learned that some Guangdong companies contributed significantly to help other countries against the pandemic. We are ready to support and promote more content and initiative between our nations and the Greater Bay Area in order to have more investment, social and cultural exchanges,” Carlos Ignacio Giralt Cabrales.

There was also a Q&A session during the meeting. Members of the Consular Corps actively involved in the conversation and gained more insight into Shenzhen’s plans for education, electronic currency and international cooperation.
